Brief Description of Duties / Responsibilities:

I am the Internship Manager for our California offices. I handle training, recruiting, metric, and managing our 10 interns. I also help develop trainings for our advisers nationwide.

What Has Been Your Proudest Accomplishment Post-CWP?

Graduating from the LPP program at Lincoln Financial. I am now in my permanent role with Lincoln in California and could not be happier with the journey I have taken so far.

College Works Career Impact

In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?

College Works Painting showed me the professionalism I needed to be where I am today.

How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?

Immediatly after graduation, I join Lincoln Financial and their Leadership Preparation Program (LPP). I was able to see different areas of our organization and the position took me across the country! I am currently the Internship Manager for our California offices and hopefully will expand our internship nationwide!!!!

What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?

2009 – My first client that I sold and painted the house. I am not the nervous little kid that burnt his hand on the powerwasher (the wife included that in my referral letter as well) like I did 4 years ago. I have continued to build my management / leadership skills and College Works Painting and my clients played a tremendous role in my development.

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?

Learning Real World Experience. Being able to overcome my failures, (EVERYONE will have failures during the internship) you have to be able to get back up and keep moving forward!

How have the friendships and networks you built during CW affected you?

I stayed in touch a little after the program ended but since I moved across country it has been harder…I did however interview a current student with College Works Painting experience and I could not wait to hear about their experience

If you had to come up with a one line slogan for CW, what would it be?

Work hard to PLAY hard!

Advice

What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?

You need to have adversity. You will get rejected and put down, but you need to have the drive and energy to move forward regardless of the obstacles in front of you. NO EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!!!!

What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?

College Works Painting is real life experience. If you successfully complete the internship then an interview for a career after school will be a walk in the park. You will have leadership skills, teamwork, communication, building rapport / a client base, marketing, entrepreneur, and so much more. What else could I ask for in an internship at 19 years old!

What’s your favorite memory from CW?

Collecting my first deposit by myself on my first house. And it ended up as the first house my team painted. I was so nervous. Luckily they had an 18 year old daughter that told her dad; what, are you really not going to give this kid the business? They were an AWESOME family and I obtained a referral from them as well.

Last words of wisdom?

Never Quit! Keep pushing yourself! NO EXCUSES! Dare to be different and go outside the box!
