Title: Technical Project Manager

Industry: Technology

Brief Description of Duties / Responsibilities:

I manage the implementation of a 3rd party integration for the HPOne eCommerce program. The HPOne program is a new offering where consumers are able to purchase a variety of products services and checkout via a financing solution from Citizens Pay (CP) – buy now, pay later. The integration is currently in production working seamlessly for real customers. Financing with CP is the only way to check out in this program – the HPOne program success hinged upon the success of this implementation. I serve as the interface between HP and CP and manage the business relationship as well as driving the technical implementation. I provide cross-functional support and collaborate with many HP services and teams. I create, manage, and monitor Jira tickets to translate designs and requirements into user stories for CP. I track bugs through Jira and drive timely resolution based on priority and impact. The program has successfully launched to the production platform and will be available to the general public soon. I manage 3 application software development teams that provide internal HP customers and services backend support. I support these applications as a Technical PM and Product Manager. I’ve Implemented a roadmap of new feature requirements for 3 development teams and am currently creating work/maintaining apps. Teams range in size from 5 to 8 and I work with a peer IT PM’s to allocate resources based on backlog priorities. The software development teams sit in India and I collaborate with HP stakeholders in time zones throughout the world. Teams work with Node.JS and Ruby on rails. They code in JavaScript, C, C++, Ruby, GoLang, Python, Springboot, React.JS, SQL, MySQL DB, MongoDB.

College Works Career Impact

In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?

College Works Painting was a great building block to meet great people, learn how to be organized, and accomplish more than you ever thought possible.

How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?

College Works Painting was a really impressive mark on my resume, running my own business and showing companies that I myself drove revenue. The one draw back is that it was not in an office setting.

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?

Communication skills. Interacting with people one on one, in a sales environment was key. Also just picking up interpersonal skills and how to communicate with people (customers, co-workers etc) was helpful.

Advice

What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?

Embrace the challenge and realize how beneficial it is to run your own business in college. You make good bonds, and learn invaluable skills not just with painting but organization, and communication skills that last forever.

What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?

If you know what you want to do, put everything behind your goals and go achieve it. If you do not know what you want to do, put everything you have into finding that out.

What’s your favorite memory from CW?

The weekend we went to go work on a house for training. I believe ours was in Fredericksburg, but it was a great bonding time while we actually got to take action and learn techniques etc.

Last words of wisdom?

“We take communication for granted because we do it so frequently, but it’s actually a complex process.”
