My proudest accomplishment would be getting an offer and accepting a job in the DC area that will serve as a great start to my career. That, and making more money than my friends, always staying a step or two ahead.
College Works Painting was instrumental in developing my business skills and the mindset that I should never quit or take “no” for an answer.
College Works Painting helped me have the drive to recruit hard and manage relationships with many people.
My favorite client was Otilia. She was a very nice old woman whose house I painted first. It was a big job and she was very understanding about any mistakes. It really made me feel good about the whole program as I moved forward for the rest of the summer.
Never be afraid to talk to someone and try to sell your brand.
I have friends in the business school of College Works Painting that I still get drinks with at Ann Arbor bars today.
College Works Painting is the most difficult but most rewarding and most beneficial internship you can have as a college student.
Don’t quit once you finish the program! You will have more experience than any of your peers. Interviewers ate my College Works Painting experience out of my hand. Go back to school and get the best internship you can for the next summer. I fell right back with my peers because I took the next year off. Always stay ahead!
If it’s the summer after your freshman or sophomore year, do College Works Painting. You will learn be so much more impressive than anyone else applying for internships your junior year and for full-time jobs after that.
I have the same advice for any career field: Recruit hard, make as many connections as you can, keep those connections, and never close any doors.
One day when I was marketing door to door, I got a lead from a man who wanted the estimate right on the spot. Two hours later, I booked him for my biggest job of the summer. Treat every door you knock on like a $2,000 payday if you bring your best.
Don’t quit.
