Title: Best Wife and Mom Ever
Industry:
I am retired. If I decide to work again I will always run my own business. I have run my own business for 11 years. Currently I manage my house staff in Zimbabwe and chase an active toddler while waiting for baby Reagan to arrive in May. I bake for my husband’s office every week. I work out religiously. I travel frequently. We are going to Dubai in the next few months. I keep busy while enjoying retirement. Im not sure how long my retirement will realistically last-I am being heavily recruited constantly.
What Has Been Your Proudest Accomplishment Post-CWP?“Most recently we moved to Zimbabwe with our 9 month old daughter and our second daughter on the way. My husband (CWP Alumni) landed a job building US embassies all over the world. I retired at the ripe old age of 30. For me, being a mom is much more demanding than being a CWP intern, DM, or VP, I know, I have done it all! And that is exactly why I decided to retire-to take on my next challenge. I am proud to say that I live a life with no regrets. CWP taught me to appreciate the opportunity in each situation. I have constantly pushed myself since the day I signed on. I have made plenty of mistakes but each mistake helped me to grow and become the person God intended me to be. I am proud that I can humbly accept challenges and be positive that everything happens for a reason. “
College Works Painting changed my life.
I was going to be a lawyer. I would have been a damn good lawyer too. But if I had chosen that path, I would be living a normal life, working too hard and never making enough money. I would have been normal if I had not accepted the position at College Works Painting. Have you ever met a normal person? They are boring and constantly wishing for something more. They can never be content. If I would have become a lawyer I would still be chasing that insatiable dream. The greatest lesson I learned from College Works Painting is that your career is not your life. Your career is part of your life. College Works Painting gave me a place to grow and learn and shine. College Works Painting was my arena to practice for my big kid life. Now I have so many job offers and I’m not even looking for a job.
Mr. Stewart was my most memorable client. I had 42, but I remember everything about that estimate, that project, and what he taught me. He was a soon to be retired corporate attorney. He sternly requested that I do his estimate at 7:30am, because he was a busy man. I booked his project that Saturday morning for 12k, got an H-marketing lead, and had no idea what I was getting myself into. After Add-Ons, the project finished at 15k. It had 97 windows. When I asked Mr. Stewart why he went with me he said, “I’ve worked with a lot of contractors, and I know you are not going to leave until my house is done the way it should be.” And he was right. We hit speed bumps as to be expected in a project that size. It took nearly 3 weeks to finish his house. Mr. Stewart was a tough client with sharp expectations. He taught me to face confrontation. He taught me it is okay when people quit-just hire new ones. He taught me how to be crazy detailed. He taught me to follow what you love, not what your parents want you to love, and not to follow the money.
Work hard. Work harder than your competition. Work harder than your friends and your family. Find joy in whatever work you are doing and it will be contagious. If you can look at each day, at each job and know that you did your honest to God best job you were capable of, then you will be blessed.
College Works Painting is a family. This is not a job. I talk to my College Works Painting friends every week. My friends from college are great…but we are different people now. We chose different paths. My drinking buddies from college don’t own houses, they don’t have investment accounts, they don’t travel like rockstars, they don’t have kids, they don’t have date night each week even when work is hectic, and they don’t know how to move up from where they are. With that said, I love them. My College Works Painting friends make choices to promote personal growth. My College Works Painting friends take calculated risks, they go for promotions and get them. They travel the world because they can afford to take more than 2 weeks off.
College Works Painting is a place where winners come to perform
“Potential participants: If you are afraid to work hard-this is not the right place for you. If you want to stand out-College Works Painting is your new family. Current participants: Ask for feedback. Ask yourself and those around you, how can I get better at this job? Its not about marketing or sales. Its about learning a system and becoming proficient at each step of the program. That is what future employers want to see. What did you achieve at College Works Painting? “
Your career field will change. Over the last 11 years I have spent with this company I have never met a student that completed the internship that was not grateful for the opportunities it presented. You will gain industry specific experience and more specifically field experience in each company you join. Companies want to know what you are willing to do and see what evidence you have that you can stick with it when you are lost, scared, new, and overwhelmed. Wait until you have enough experience before you enter your industry…you want to show them that you can shine.
What you do between the ages or 18 and 25 will shape the rest of your life. Party hard. Meet new people. Travel as often as you can. Read books. Learn from those around you.
“Yikes. I could write a book on this. I might someday. Here a just a few. Our Six Flags payroll ended with late night conversations that lasted until sunrise. Standing on stage in Cancun proud to be apart of the 100k club is a feeling no one can ever take away from you. Getting my Tag watch after 10 years with College Works Painting.”
“Ask for help. Ask your DM for advice. Ask about his/her mistakes and be better. Ask the TOP interns for help. You will fail everyday. That is awesome! I don’t know any job or internship where failing and celebrating your new knowledge is a weekly practice. Come ready to play everyday. “
