College Works Career Impact
In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?
College Works Painting was a great experience at learning the intricacies of setting up a small company, something that can be useful to almost any field.
How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?
College Works Painting set me up for other management positions and gave me a leg up for other leadership opportunities in my field.
What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?
Life is not fair. And every experience in life is what you make it, not what others make it for you.
Advice
What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?
Be ready to work hard and the details mean everything.
What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?
Take advantage of as many professional development opportunities as possible to bolster your resume. Teaching, managing, writing, etc. Plan to work for the love of science, because the money is not a major draw of the field.
What’s your favorite memory from CW?
Going to Canada with $7 in my pocket and easily having the craziest time of anyone at that meeting.
Last words of wisdom?
Don’t hire only your friends. It makes it harder to fire your whole crew at once.
