College Works Career Impact

In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?

College Works Painting was my training ground for the real world.

How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?

Putting College Works Painting on my resume and talking about the experience I had with them in interviews landed me a job with Edward Jones. The experience I gained from my time with College Works Painting helped me to establish the fundamental skills that have made me successful to this day. I still use those skills on a daily basis.

What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?

I would just want to say thank you to all my clients. They trusted me with a big task and a great deal of money. I am proud to say they were all happy with the work I provided them that summer.

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?

Work like no one else today so that one day you may live like no one else.

How have the friendships and networks you built during CW affected you?

I started dating a girl years ago in College Works Painting and to this day we are still together. Many of the best friends I have now I met through College Works Painting. It is crazy to try to imagine what would be like if I never did this program.

If you had to come up with a one line slogan for CW, what would it be?

5 years of experience packed into one summer

Advice

What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?

College Works Painting will be the most challenging experience of your young life but it will also be the most educational real world experience you could go through in your college career.

Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CW. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?

If you can do an internship that guarantees you a job after you complete it then by all means go for it. However, from my experience having College Works Painting on your resume will go a hundred times farther than answering phones and filing paper work at some bank or investment company.

What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?

Get experience in sales and customer services. Your classes and employer will likely teach you a great deal about finance. If not, you can learn through reading and researching online. Experience in sales and working with people is absolutely vital in today’s world and it cannot be learned from a book.

What’s your favorite memory from CW?

As an intern my favorite moment was accepting the intern of the year award. As a branch manager my proudest moment was watching my intern accept the same award the very next year.

Last words of wisdom?

You can’t always choose be the smartest or the most talented but you can always choose to be the one that works the hardest.
