Color is one of the easiest ways to transform your home. But picking the right color? Now that can be surprisingly challenging (after all, there are so many good options to choose from!). The team at College Works are experts at helping homeowners decide the right paint color, whether they’re planning a full home makeover or are looking to simply breathe new life into a single room.
Here, they shared the interior paint color trends they’re seeing most in 2025—and provide more than a few helpful hints for how to choose the right color for your space.
Earthy greens & natural hues
Green never really goes out of style, and this year we’ve seen homeowners opt for muted, earthy shades of green that can create a sense of tranquility and connection to nature in any space. To get the look, go for greens that lean towards the brown end of the spectrum (as opposed to something bright and saturated) like sage, olive, and moss—all of which are perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, and home offices. These desaturated green tones are particularly versatile, and, because green is the most common color found in nature, will function almost like a neutral in your home.
Warm terracotta & rust shades
If you’re looking for a way to make a statement without going overly bold, warm terracotta and rust shades are a great paint color option. Calling to mind the dusty red deserts of the American Southwest, these tones can lean more bohemian (especially when paired with lighter natural wood tones) or can add an unexpected sense of coziness to more sophisticated spaces. We love using them in kitchens, dining rooms, and living areas to set the mood.
Dreamy soft blues & muted purples
Muted grey-toned blues and purples are perfect for turning any room into a calm, relaxing environment. These colors are ideal for bedrooms, bathrooms, and spaces where decompressing is a priority. We recommend going for a light blue if you want to invoke serenity and opting for mauve if you prefer a more elevated look.
Pops of primary colors
Last year, the “pop of red” trend took the interiors world by storm, and we’re seeing that same philosophy extended to a wider palette of primary colors, including buttery yellows and vivid blues. These colors are a great way to bring life into a room through furniture, art, and accessories. But, if you’re feeling particularly bold, you can add a serious dose of personality to your space by painting trim, baseboards, doors, and bannisters in one of the saturated shades.
Modern neutrals
Millennial grey is officially out. This year, we’ve seen many of our homeowners move away from cool-toned greys and instead opt for beiges, tans, and creamy off-whites with warm, inviting undertones. These soft shades work well in most rooms and are perfect for creating a timeless, welcoming look.
Bold black & charcoal shades
If your interior style leans more modern or industrial, consider using graphic black or deep charcoal paint to accent your space. These look especially striking when done in high-gloss on trim, baseboards, doors, and even cabinets and can be used to add needed contrast in spaces where lighter tones reign supreme.
Moody jewel tones
From rich maroons to deep sapphires, a few coats of jewel toned paint are one of our favorite ways to make a space feel instantly more luxurious. These shades work great in smaller spaces like formal dining rooms, sophisticated home offices, and powder rooms—and they can even work to enhance the coziness of low-light living spaces.

Choosing the right color for your home’s interior can dramatically change the atmosphere of the rooms you use every single day. Whether you prefer calm tones, vibrant accents, or nature-inspired shades, this year’s trending colors offer plenty of options for every style.
